CAPITOL PUBLIC RADIO/SUTTER HEALTH

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA

Building originally built in 1962, consisted of a 5-level parking garage and a 2-level office space that hosted the Bank of California up until 2002, and then was left vacant. In 2022, other than the parking garage which remains, the 8,000 square feet building has been renovated to the new Performing Art Theater and Sutter Health Center for Community Engagement of downtown Sacramento. The new design still shows the exterior aluminum fins and beautiful concrete waffle-slab of the existing structure. The renders shown were not done by me.

This project was often put on hold and had many design revisions due to changes in scope of work from the client. The building was originally designed to also host CapRadio’s Office Headquarters (HQ) in the lower level but has now been relocated to 730 I Street. My involvement in the project was within schematic design and design development phases when CapRadio’s HQ was still located in the lower level.  When CapRadio decided to have two separate buildings that were to be design and constructed concurrently, I continued working on the office HQ while a colleague of mine headed the community center.
